I´ve been going to high school here for about a week now. I go to a private Catholic school in Margarita called La Salle. It is the third hardest school in Panama!!! (And that´s if you speak Spanish!) It is right by the Panama Canal. I have to pass through the canal police checkpoints on my way to school each morning.
My sister goes to the different school, but her cousin goes with me. I get driven there every morning at 7. It´s about 10 minutes away. It´s very difficult, obviously, because I don´t speak Spanish. However, each day I learn new words and understand more. Read more.

So for our 6th month anniversary of being an exchange student in Panama AFS took us for a weekend in San Blas which is a string of over 300 tiny gorgeous tropical islands. There we spent the weekend having lots of adventures, from getting woken up at 3:30 in the morning to start our journey, to getting completely soaked by waves in our cloths on the way out to the island, to staying in a hotel that was also an island, to playing in the crystal blue waters, to sleeping on beautiful beaches, to seeing islands with a single palm tree, to telling different stories from all our exchanges...Read more.

So the day after Santiago, my chapter organized a trip to Isla Grande. We invited other chapters and all together we had about 25 exchange students head out to Isla Grande for 4 days. The island is amazing, it's so beautiful and we had a great time hanging out and exploring it. Lots of time was spent on the beach swimming, we went on a boat tour around the islands, and went on an adventure to look for monkeys...Read more.

So the start of November means the start of the Patriotic holiday month!!!!
For the big holiday week I headed to the beach with my family. We went to a beach called Corona and we were out there with a bunch of my families friends at my families good friend Ferrufino's beach house. We spent the day playing in the waves, laying on the beach, and eating very yummy food!
I also spent some time with vilde and her new sister Ilicena who is a good friend of mine and together we went to the movies and to the disco as well! Read more.

Hey All! Well I have been pretty busy here in Panama, my family has been taking me lots of places and making sure I get to see lots of Panama. Life here is very relaxed, time is not such an issue and sleep well they do it in parts. There are a bunch of people that live in my neighborhood and every night they go out into the intersection and have a party, the intersection is right in front of my house and every one in my house is outside so I have been doing that and getting to know the neighbors well. The kids go play a game, last night they were playing soccer and jumping rope, and everyone sits around and talks and such. They all are very interested and want to hear all my stories of Alaska...although the language thing is still an issue so it often takes several tries to get any information across, however the Panamanians are very nice and don't give up. In my age group there are about 9 teenagers, 10 now with me. The Spanish is coming though! :-) Read more.
